With many car companies moving towards electric versions to improve sustainability, the iconic British Mini Cooper car is the latest car to have jumped on the electric car bandwagon.
The SE variant of the three-door hatch with its stylish look is powered by an electric motor and battery with a 233-kilometre (145-mile) range.
Despite performing like a futuristic EV, it’s still a mini variant of the 2022 Mini Cooper, with its own quirky feature although it still has features that link it to its original from the 1960s.

Given that, in this article, we share five interesting features of the 2022 Mini Cooper SE.
- The LED Union Jack Tail Light
One of the major ways you’ll know that the Mini Cooper SE is a quintessentially British car is through its Union jack tail light. The very first place the union jack tail light appeared was on the 2014 Superleggera Vision concept car.
The Union jack tail light is a design of the British flag emblemed on the tail light. In another way, it’s almost as though the BMW pays homage to its British heritage using the Union jack tail light.
- The Mini Cooper SE Comes With Square Wheels!
It’s strange to admit that the Mini Cooper SE does not come with round wheels, sort of. While the Mini Cooper SE is fitted with Roulette spoke wheels, the optional power spoke wheels feature square cutouts.
- The Badge Is Power plug-Shaped As Well
Don’t think the electric entendres end with the wheel design. The special ‘E’ badge that’s on the trunk and the charging flap of the Mini Cooper SE contains their own play on the theme.
At the first glance, the chrome outer part forms an E shape. When you look closer, the inner lime green section resembles a power plug.
- There Are Circles All Over The Car
Before you get to the wheel of the car, you will find out that there are lots of squares in the car. The headlights are round. But, another place you will find circles all over the car is inside the cabin.
Another place you’ll find the circles are in the door handles, air vents, the speaker grilles and climate dials are all circular.
The instrument cluster and pedals are oval-shaped to fit the theme.
However, the other place where the circles stand out is on the central infotainment screen.
It’s in homage to the central round speedometer in the 1960s Mini, the screen is housed inside a big circle and is rounded at the sides.
The circle also lights up in correspondence with the parking sensors, changing colour as you come closer to obstacles.
- The Car Comes With Lime Green Trims Everywhere
Another way that the Mini Cooper SE tries to reinforce that the car is environmentally-conscious and subscribes to the “green” mode of transport is with the green trims you’ll find all over the car.
There are flashes of lime green everywhere you look, including in its exterior badges.
On the wheel centre caps, there’s a lime green ring surrounding the central “Mini” script.
The wing mirror caps are also painted, making them a particular standout.
Even inside the car, there are green flashes on the shifter and starter button, which is actually a metal toggle switch.
Also, within the car, there’s the ‘green mode’.
