Dixon started playing at the age of 12 at Enmore Park Golf Club and was inspired in his early years by Sir Nick Faldo. His amateur career highlights included playing for England, winning the Lytham Trophy and the South African Amateur Open Championship and claiming the Silver Medal as leading amateur in the Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes in 2001, finishing tied 30th.
