Born and raised in Syracuse, N.Y., Mara graduated from Corcoran High School before heading to San Francisco State University and Yale. She began her film and TV career in the 1989 with the television movie “The Preppie Murder,” and would go on to amass over 80 screen credits.
Her notable productions include “ER,” which saw her play recurring patient Loretta Sweet, and police procedural “Nash Bridges,” which saw her act in the main cast as inspector Bryn Carson. The “Law & Order” actress was found in the river by Troopers, Cape Vincent Fire and Ambulance around 8:10 a.m. at 33753 Old Farm Road in the Town of Cape Vincent.
According to a press release, State Police believe Mara drowned while swimming. The investigation is ongoing, and the body has been taken to the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
